  • Suzuki MFG supply shortage solution

I have ordered a new boat that was coming in October sometime with 1 new DF100BTX and Suzuki multi function gauge, plus GPS puck. The dealer was also installing my own Garmin Echomap 95sv and transducer, plus adding his recommendation of a Garmin GPS19x antenna. Now I'm told the Suzuki MFG is out of stock (due to worldwide chip shortage) & delivery is not expected in Australia for at least 6 months.
He is providing a loan analogue tach that gives engine hours & warnings until the MFG is installed. But I really want to get engine data for my new motor, particularly fuel usage, and asked the dealer to set up a MNEA 2000 network to my sounder to do so. The dealer is reluctant to do this workaround citing issues they have experienced in the past due to software incompatibilty.

I know nothing about networking the Garmin MFD to the motor, but have just read the excellent "Suzuki Outboard NMEA 2000 Networks" document by Moonlighter, and watched the Youtube video "Suzuki NMEA 2000 : Complete Install For Outboards" by SoCal Seachaser to help give me an understanding. It seems to work well from what I've read so thought I'd ask for an opinion here.

And if I do use an NMEA 2000 network to get the engine data on my Garmin MFD, would I then just stick with the analogue gauge and remove the Suzuki GPS puck and MFG from my order?

I was wondering if adding the Suzuki MFG and GPS puck to the NMEA network when the gauge becomes available would confuse the MFD and MFG devices as therr would be 2 GPS sources (ie the Garmin 19X and Suzuki GPS).

If there is an alternative solution, please let me know, thanks.
