I have a 2009 DF4 I bought new.
It was only a "just in case" motor that beats rowing back in, if needed, to my main DT85.
I rarely used it, maybe 10 hours on it at most, I think.
Upon getting the motors ready for a new season I noticed the lil' motor not constantly peeing.
I thought I would order a new impeller and put it in.
The part arrived and I went to start on it and noticed the mocha color oil weeping out, WTH????
Sure enough, water was in the gear case.
It must have just started because it wasn't there a week or so ago.
I noticed 3 of the 4 stud bolts that hold the pump housing to the lower unit were sheared right off under their washers.....HUH, WHY?
Oh well, everything looked good inside, jut ordered up new rubber parts, and would be done with it.
Nope, I got the new parts and went about putting it back together but I noticed I lost some of the shims from cleaning away the goop.
Didn't even know about them, darn.
Thought I would just do a dry run, of assembly, as I will have to order new shims now.
Looking at the part diagram(s) I noticed the water tube guide, and I didn't remember removing that part.....
Decided to shine a light up into the housing and see if it was attached there.
Nope, it looks like it never was installed from the factory as the female threads look to have never been threaded into....
Could this have been the cause of those bolts to shear off?
Also, why so many obsolete parts already on this motor?
I will have to find a washer for the drive shaft, at the pinion, as I guess I lost that too, arg!
You just use stainless?
It does list the size of the old one 10X24X1.7
One more question too, if I may.....
I didn't pay attention to the gear(s), reverse & forward, when they came off.
They look the same but one has what appears to me to be a oil way inside where the shaft passes through....
I am thinking that is the gear closest to the prop, so oil can get to that bearing/race..... yes?
The front gear should get plenty as it sits in oil on both sides.
Is there a better place to get reassembly directions than just looking at the part list pictures?
Thanks in advance!
