It might be a bit too obvious, but have you checked the fuel tank breather isn't blocked?
This will create a vacuum in the tank and stop fuel reaching the engine.
Also, could it be that the engine is going into 'limp home' mode because of a cooling issue, it's running low on 2-stroke oil, or there is an issue with the 2-stroke oil tank sender telling the 'system' it's low on oil?
The senders leak and the long thin PCB inside corrodes and gives false warnings. They can be hard wired to fool the system into thinking the tank is full.
