Gear Case Assembly for 1992 DT40

I recently purchased a Gear Case Assembly, part #49-55100-94331-OED for my 1992 DT40 motor. However, the part I received is #49-55100-94453-OED and it says that it is a replacement for the original part I ordered. I then placed an order for the gear case covers for this part and was told that they are no longer available. My question is this.....the gear case cover for my old gear case assembly is an open rectangle shape. The new gear case assembly has two 1/4" holes in it. Do these holes have to be plugged since the cover is no longer available and if so, what can I plug them with? Thanks in advance!
