  • SDS Diagnose read out, how to use?

    Hi

I made a read ot of my DFS15 (2014). (engine not running)
Problem when using engine was that after a short time of 50%power, the engine lamp was lit and the power was reduced by the engine system.

Read out shows some temperature problems. But what does "gradient" mean?

Suggestions for actions? Replace impeller? A bit strange is that it did come out water when using engine. But perhaps not enough?

Two kinds of temp alarms on Suzukis.

Temp Absolute = temp has reached the “too hot” temp level. Whatever that number is, kts programmed into the ecu.

Temp Gradient = temp has risen too fast, but may not yet have reached the “too hot” level. This can help diagnose the problem.

May be a thermostat stuck closed, or a water pump not pumping enough water. The symptoms you describe are consistent with an old impeller has lost its flexibility, they can pump enough at idle but not enough at higher revs.

Me - I would install a new water pump kit - always do the whole kit, not just the impeller. And throw in a new thermostat, or at least remove and test the old one.

You have also had quite a few over-revs there too. Like 51 times! Whats the story there? Prop with not enough pitch?

      Thanks, good answer!

The impeller is old (10years). I suppose it would not be strange if it is in a poor condition.
As you suggest, I should also take a look at the thermostat.

      Over rev....
It has been common to give full throttle until engine itself limits. And then back off a bit until smooth operation again
      It is standard prop.
Sometimes the boat is heavy loaded and then I guess this prop&pitch is OK to quickly reach cruising speed.
If I am alone in the boat, it would be possible to have another pitch and get a faster ride.

10 year old impeller!! No wonder the engine is overheating!

Impellers get a “set” in the blades after a couple of years and they are no longer flexible so they so not pump efficiently.

They should be replaced every 2 years at the latest.

Please do the water pump kit and replace it all, all the parts wear even though you may not see the wear.
