Drive Shaft and Pinion Failure

I use 3 # Suzuki DF 225's on my ferry boats and I have had to change my 30'' drive shaft and gear set nearly every month as I keep loosing the shaft, pinion and forward gears!

Can anyone tell me what I can do to remedy the problem?

The dimensions for my boat are:

Lenght 50 feet
Breathe 12 feet
Draft 1 foot
Weight 8 tons

What oil are you using in lower unit?

One thing you should make sure of is that you are using the correct oil in the lower unit. It requires a GL5 gear oil 8o - 90 wt. That is not just regular gear oil, whcih are usually 75-90 wt (GL4). GL5 means it has special additives that deal with the tremendous forces seen by the pinion type gears.

how many hours between oil changes on leg . sounds like you oil is not up to it
