A year ago I ordered a replacement prop to keep as a spare and decided to change out the prop today. The new prop fits(tightly, had to kind of help it along with a 2x4) but is approximately an inch shorter then the old one so the end of the shaft slightly protudes past the prop.. Is this ok? Appreciate any insight! This is a df50

Is the spacer installed between the motor and the prop?

Yes it is, its attached to the prop, rubber spacer. the prop itself is actually about an inch shorter then the current one which dosen't have a spacer. The inside of the current prop is spaced away from the lower unit approx 2" whereas the new one is only 3/4". and the spacer is about 1/2". I'm worried that this will affect the driveablity/ performance of the boat.

Exactly what make and model prop is this new one?

I have doubts that you have the correct model to suit your engine….. you should never have to force a prop onto the splines using a hammer…
