I had a friend try to work on it and he put it in a barrel and didn't submerge it enough and I replaced water pump and the temp shut down on the head cover and it starts and pumps water but it will run about 100yrds and the pump weep hole quits working and it shuts down. After it cools completly it will start back up and do the same thing. Anyone have an idea of this problem ?? I am a mechanic but I've only worked on older evinrude I don't want to start repairing things that are not the problem can ya'll help me out?

Put it back in barrel with enough water (always above water pump), add 3 - 5 gallons vinegar (depends on size of barrel?). Run motor in neutral for about 2 hours total time (same solution will get hot, let cool down, then run till hot again). Continue same vinegar flush for total of 2 hours.
If you have a temperature gun, take temperature readings at various places around the cylinders and cylinder head areas (looking for hottest areas). Record the temperatures when you start flushing, and half way through flushing at same areas and compare readings. At end of flushing check readings again to compare.
