This motor (87 DT65) has been giving me fits since I purchased and installed it about a year ago. When I shift it into reverse, the idle drops significantly and it stalls in idle. It idles much slower in reverse than in forward. It works fine in forward. Is there an idle adjustment solely for reverse? A more controllable reverse would sure make docking much easier and less tense.

There is not a separate reverse idle adjustment. What rpms does your motor run in forward, neutral, and then reverse?
It sounds more like some kind of a linkage adjustment problem?
With the hood off, motor not running, look at the throttle and shift cables. Have someone slowly shift into forward and reverse, and pay attention to where the throttle cable sits, and if it moves? Does the shift cable cause the throttle cable to move?
Post back what you find out.
