DF 150 AP starting issue

Hi All,

I have an intermittent issue with the push button starter on my boat.

It's happened twice now while at anchor out at sea when I try to restart the motor nothing happens.

No green light on in the start position? no buzzer or fault codes showing and the digital display indicates the motor is in neutral.

I know when its in gear because it bleeps twice and moving the helm control to neutral it starts ok.

My issue is when in neutral with no bleeps nothing happens when the starter button is pressed?

Moving the helm control several times between forward and reverse seems to correct the problem.

It's as though an interlock is sticking preventing the starter from operating.

I've checked all connections I can see for any corrosion and all look fine.

All batteries are fully charged with shore based chargers.

Kill switch works ok so that can be eliminated.

Any advice would be appreciated.

There are 2 neutral safety switches
sounds like one is out of adjustment

Neutral switch in the throttle binnacle.

The gear position indicator comes from the neutral switch on the engine gear linkages unless I am mistaken.

I would be pulling the throttle binnacle apart to check that the neutral switch in there is not damaged/loose/wires pinched etc.

I will have a go at tacking the throttle binnacle apart,

Not sure how it comes apart though?

I could do with a schematic drawing but not sure if one exists.

Go to the “buy Suzuki parts” link in the blue bar at the top of this forum and select your engine from the menu.

You should then be able to find the same binnacle in the parts listing and there us usually an exploded view that should help.

I should have suggested to check the wiring connections to the binnacle first of all.

Hi All,

Update on my starting issue.

Turned out to be corrosion within the kill switch.

Soaked the switch in WD40 and now appears to be ok.

Dealer also recommended and adjusted the binnacle friction adjusted (1/2 a turn clockwise ) to give a more positive feel.

Shift sensors within the motor all tested all ok and set correctly.

Time will tell.
