  • DF140 rev limit

Running this 24' CC with a pair of 03 DF140's on jackplates. 36mph was 5100rpms, plenty of throttle left. Ran it out today and she spun 6500rpms at 46mph on both rather easily without much trim. Boat hops on plane quickly. I did not persay feel the rev limiter but that seemed about it for rpms. I can not see any visible pitch markings on the props.

Max operating range on 03 DF140s is 5600-6200 rpms. You are flirting with disaster running continuously at 6500 IMO.

I ran it out to see what the top rpms where, then backed off. I know 6200 is target for average load trimmed up. This boat was propped this way when I got it. I don't run heavy. I'd rather have the extra mph this thing seems to have left in it.

I was asking if anyone knew the rev limiter on these. That's all.

Shouldn't the rev. limiter have kicked in before 6500rpm?

Pretty sure the rev limit is right at 6500/6600.. My pontoon hits 33 at 6200 light load and trimmed, if it blows out, it doesn't go much beyond that before you hear it hit the limiter..

Will be moving from the 17" 4-blade to a 19" 4-blade for next season, prefer to run my motors mid band unless it was setup to pull skiers.

            From the manual...
            Over-Revolution Caution System
The system is activated when engine speed exceeds maximum recommended speed for more than 10 seconds.
If this system activates, engine speed will automatically be reduced to approximately 3000 r/min, with red REV Limit lamp lit.
The system must be reset by moving the throttle to the idle position for about one second to restore full engine operation.

It only does that if it's held against the rev limit for the specified time. It can bump the rev limiter without doing this.

My light comes on at about 6000rpm then I trim down. No alarm buzzer just the light. If your not looking at the tach you will never know. Never had mine shut down to 3000.
