  • C10 Gauge

My C10 Gauge will not let me set the time or date manually. I have looked at the installation book and have no clue why it will not let me manually type in the time and date. Guess I never realized it was not set correctly since day one until fishing this past week and I had the Low CAN buss voltage appear. It happed at the end of the day cranking up to head in. Trying to figure out what is going on with that one which is a huge headache. I have a new battery coming Thursday to see if that is the problem with the low voltage appearing.
The battery is the original one that came with the boat - Interstate 27M-XHD wet cell.

Back to the gauge, when I went to alarm history my date is 2016 and had a host of other codes that I had no clue of. Guess I need to check the history a little more. Boat has ran fine since day one which was June of 2018. Motor is a 2018 DF175

On most displays the date and time as set automatically when they receive GPS data. I suspect the C-10 may be the same.

Do you have a GPS source on the same network?

Re the low voltage issue, if you do even a basic search on this forum you will see a number of posts about the potential impact of low voltage on the engine ecu and the network. And what problems it can cause.

Thanks for the reply Moonlighter. As far as I know I do not have GPS that the gauge recognizes. It is in a shed and does not receive a signal. I will check it next week when I pull it out. I did read in one post you posted about the software version of it needing to be 3.5.4 mine is 3.5.0 for that year model. Not for sure if that could be part of my problem with either or not. I know I don't want to go messing with stuff that doesn't need to be messed with and end up with a bigger problem.

100%, on the issue of low voltage. I have read pretty much all of your replies on this site and other sites you have posted. Thanks for your knowledge and help in this area that you have provided. New battery will not be here until this coming Thursday. We will start there and see what happens. I will report back what I find. Thanks again for the reply!

Yes try it after the boat is outside where the GPS can get a proper signal.

The 3.5.xx software relates to the interface.

Personally I would update it to 3.5.4, thee were stability issues with 3.5.0 that were fixed with 3.5.4.

Easy to do the update. Let me kmow if you want to do the upload and I will post a link to the file and instructions.

To upload a different version software to the Suzuki interface cable, the procedure is detailed below.

This upload can be done using a Suzuki C-10 gauge (you copy the update software file to a usb stick and connect it to the C-10) or with any Simrad NSS or GO series MFD or any Lowrance HDS or Elite Ti/FS model (copy the file to a sd card that will fit into the MFD, again it must be no greater than 32GB capacity or the MFD cant read it.)

Important note 1: if you have multiple engines you should be careful! If all engines keys are turned on when you upload the software update, it will attempt to update them all simultaneously and that will more than likely cause the update to crash. So, either turn one engine key on at a time to do the upload individually, or, unplug all bar one interface from the network and do them one at a time.

Now, the upload procedure is as follows:
            1. Turn the engine key to on where it beeps (but you dont need to start the engine)
            2. Open the C-10 or Simrad/Lowrance MFD menu, find the files/storage page and locate the usb stick or sd card, open it, and select the software update file.
            3. Select upload. Wait while it uploads, you will see a update progress bar as it uploads. It can take a minute or so to upload. Exit when its done.
            4. Then go into the menu again and find network/devices and then open the device list. Locate the Suzuki interface that was just updated. Select configure, it opens a page showing details including the software version. So make sure that the software version listed now matches the version you uploaded.
            5. Also, make sure that the engine location setting is correct, if not, set it using the dropdown on that page.
            6. Do not attempt to change the hp or year settings. These are auto detected on all software versions later than 2.30. Version 2.30 is the only one that you need to manually set the hp and location.
Here is a link to 3.5.4 in my dropbox folder. Dont try to open the file or anything, just save it to the desktop then drag or copy and paste it to the usb stick. You will likely need a usb to usb cable to connect it to the C-10.

Update: Finally got the new cranking battery in and installed. I cleaned all connections going to motor. I cranked the boat a number of times with the motor in a plastic drum. I have never had the best of luck using muffs. The boat cranked great. It never showed a ghost code on my gauge. Cranking, the the motor would drop from 12.6 to 10.7 as it was cranking. I guess that is normal for it to drop around 2 volts when cranking but not for sure.

After I finished running the boat in the drum when I went to empty it, I found this in the bottom of it. It pretty much disappears in your fingers if you rub it together. Not for sure what it is???
