I started having trouble with tilt on my 2000 df70. I am leaking fluid out of the top tilt seal. When I refill it works for awhile. It appears that I will need new seals. Does the top seal act only as a "wiper" to keep dirt out or is it under pressure? It appears the tilt cap is only available as a complete assembly with the tilt rod about $210. I obviously would like to purchase seals only. Can the tilt ram be removed by just raising the motor and holding up on the stop. Anybody suggest how to approach this repair?

Did a similar job on a Honda BF90 1 month ago. For almost all the outboards you have to buy the whole assembly. For the Honda it was 450 euro's where only the seals for 5 euro's broke down
The removal en replacement is with the wright tools an one hour job most of the time. Bleeding the system is easy. read the manual on that one.Regards, Martin
