2009 175hp four stroke slight rattling/exhaust noise

Hi There,

I have a 2009 Suzi 175 hp that has done 1700 hours,
I recently noticed an additional rattly or tinny sound consistent from 2800-6000 rpm. Its a tough one because I can only tell because I have had the engine for some time and know that it sounds extra tinny(not excessive). At idle you can not hear it and its very hard to identify where it is coming from while underway. My only thought at this stage is an exhaust gasket?

Has anybody had similar or is there someone with knowledge on this engine that could help diagnose.

With out being there and listening to the rattle, at 1700 hours there would be a good chance of it being from the balance chain.

I should of added, your engine has a multi stage inlet manifold, it has an internal set of butterfly plates that open and close depending on engine rpm, the rivets that hold the plates to the shaft come loose and rattle at certain rpm. if the plastic butterflies brake you will be in a world of hurt $. Find a suzuki mechanic and let him have a listen.

Thanks mate. I have organised to take it for a run with an experienced bloke.... He thinks it might be the balancing shaft .... hopefully it isn't as severe as it sounds ... cheers
