Good evening everyone, I’m brand new to boating I bought my first Job boat this past weekend and it has a 1988 DT9.9. I have only seen the engine running in a container of water and I noticed there is water coming only from the exhaust hole that’s on the leg.
At first I thought it was normal until I saw other dt 9.9 motors on YouTube. Some were expelling water only from exhaust hole, like mine, but some were peeing a separate stream out the side too.
As a newbie to marine engines I’m not sure what’s normal. I’m assuming water should come from both holes but it isn’t for me. I’ll link a YouTube video of the engine running.
I can only get a piece of weed eater string maybe an inch up the hole.
Next I was gonna try to take out the thermostat and run it to see if it is stuck and not allowing water Into the cooling jackets on cylinders and ultimately out of the telltale.
Any ideas what’s happening here?
I point to the hole in the video.
The hole seems to be connected through the bottoms cowling and into the bottom of the engine block.
