Spark plug replacement

Hi,
I have a 2011 Suzuki. DF-140 and am planning to change the plugs. I know my way around a Chevy V-8 but boats are new to me. My wife picked up the plugs for me. The parts guy included a single washer and said it was very important to use. I have no idea what this is for. Anyone know what this is about and any pointers in general for changing these plugs?

Never heard of using an additional washer on any spark plug, let alone my Suzuki DF140 (2003 model). Did he perhaps not have the proper plugs and sold you a longer plug thus the need for an extra washer? Which plugs did he sell you guys?

Those are the right plugs - I can't think of any reason to use a separately added washer. The plugs should have a ring/crush washer already attached.
