Df25 tilt/ trim

My trim cylinder is leaking on my 2000 Df 25. Everything else works great on it. No pitting on the shaft, motor sounds good, etc. From what I'm being told and the research I've done, this is not a serviceable unit. I find it hard to believe that I have to buy a $1400 tilt/trim assembly because a $2 seal is leaking. I'm thinking about taking it to a hydraulic repair shop possibly. Has anyone tried to repair one of these or know a fix?
