  • Intermittent high idle

I have a 2004 suzuki 225 with 1200 hours on a 23 ft center console. Usually idles around 7 or8 hundred rpms. Twice in the last month after running a good distance I throttled back to idle and the rpms where at 1100. I went back up on plane, throttled back, still high. I turned the.motor off and right back.on and the.idle returned to the normal 800 rpms. I only notices this twice this summer and have put 120 hours on it. When it was idling high, it was high in.both neutral and in gear, and idle.speed was about 1 to 1.5 mph faster than normal.

Is this something to worry about?

It can be!! The IAC valve controls idle via the ECU (computer) and they're the same valve use on Suzuki Sidekicks etc.. They can carbon up and not work properly, or the pintle itself can stick.. Those issues can be 'cleaned'.. It can also go open or short circuit.. Trust me, a short circuit is something you need to know about! I just replaced a very expensive computer because the IAC was shorted and the ECU eventually overheat and melted down trying to power it..

The short deal _should_ be insanely rare, sticking etc, pretty common.

If you get even a slight (50-100rpm) change in and out of gear it's probably not working correctly. It can also cause a stall if you go from a higher RPM to neutral quickly.
