carb confusion

1996 40dt carb float part number13250-93012, also same as 55-65 hp. Diagrams of both carbs, identical to my 40dt, show float mounted with metal toward body of carb on 55-65, but metal mounted toward bowl on 40dt. Also clymer manual shows a different carb for 40dt. All have different bowl settings. Confused

main upper and main nozzle on 40dt , 55, 65hp

All carbs listed above identical, but seem to have different part numbers for main and upper nozzles. Could the wrong main and upper nozzles contribute or cause idling problems as described in previous post? Also, excessively smokes on start.
