  • Df300 throwing random alarm codes

New DF300 starboard engine throwing random error codes usually only when over 4000rpms. Even for accys not connected like remote start. Thoughts?
    ECM is clearing them automatically.

Thinking low voltage problem, maybe battery cable needs to be replaced.

    Any ideas?

Yes, Random error codes like that are often related to voltage issues. Definitely check all connections to battery, main cables, main switches etc.

interesting though that you say its only throwing them over 4000rpm. Maybe check your regulator?

Yeah I just replaced batteries and re-wired everything except the cable running to a power post in rear where the factory power from engine connects. It will occasional Theo a code when running under 4000rpm, but over that it's almost non stop it feels like.

Once I change this cable how best do I check the regulator? Ampmeter on connections? Thanks

First thing I would check, is to closely watch the engine voltage for that engine on the C-10 gauge next time you run it, and see what voltage it is showing thru the whole rev range.

Otherwise I am no expert on engine electricals. - hopefully someone else can comment.

You can check the voltage on the battery. The voltage from alternator in the engine is controlled by the regulator. This is where you start. It should be around the 14V when the battery is full. It is possible that a broken regulator has a output much higher. That is bad for the battery as well as the internal electronics. Also possible that the output is lower, not good but less damaging.
