  • Is water meant to flow out of the 3 holes in the front of the leg mid section

    Hi folks,

I am trying to rectify a engine over heat problem that occurs at high speed only and the water flow seems to diminish at high speed on a 2011 dt30.

I did notice last time I had it running there was a steady flow of water coming out of the 3 holes that are on the front of the leg mid section. The holes are located in the mid leg section where the shaft and copper water intake tube go through.

I currently have the power head off to replace the exhaust plate gaskets, and with the power head removed I can see clearly into this leg mid section and I cannot see why and how water could and should be flowing into it. The 3 holes I presume to be drain holes only.

Should there be a steady flow of water out of these 3 holes when idling?

    Thankyou

How far is your leg in the water?

The water is over the Cavitation plate by several inches when stationary.

The 3 holes on the leg mid section are well out of the water. The flow of water is steady, which indicates it is water flow from the pump.

The reason I ask this question is I am wondering if the water intake pipe has a hole in it or the rubber seals are leaking which could be causing reduced water flow through the engine when at high speed and high exhaust pressures.

      Thankyou for your help

If you can't see anything obvious from the leg side than I think you have to remove the powerhead. Then you can see what is wrong with it.

You say 2011 DT30? I think this engine is much older then 2011?

It's hard to believe this to be 2011 dt30? That means it's just 6 years old?

What problem are you having with exhaust plates/ gaskets? Exhaust pressures at wot (if leaking into water cooling pas-sages) can push water going to powerhead back enough to cause overheating?

I believe those holes are just drain and fill holes also (allowing water in and out - pics of holes could be helpful too). Do you see them (holes) when in the water, or on muffs?

Give us a little more history on this motor first. You could post a pic of serial plate if not sure of age.

When was the water pump worked on last?

Post back when able to let us know what's up. Good luck.
