  • How to see hours on DF20A?

    Hello,

I have the DF20A motor and wonder how I can see how many hours are on it. I bought a tach/hour meter and imagined it would magically read the total hours from the motor. Now I understand that's not quite how those work. People say have the dealer tell you the hours. How do the dealers do it and can I not do it in a similar way? Besides, I'd like to know I have 20 hours on it before lugging it in for that first service. I'm probably around 10 and done with break-in but can't be certain.

Thanks for helping out a new boater.

I’m assuming you bought a tachometer compatible with a Suzuki engine. At 50 hours on startup(key on not started) the tachometer will jump to 500RPM indicating 50 hours once you have 50 hours on the engine, 600RPM= 60 hours, 700RPM=70 hours… 0-49 hours no indication given. Oil change reminder will activate at 20 hours, 80 hours then every 100 hours going forward. This data should be explained in your owners manual if it applies to your engine. I’m not sure if Suzuki uses the above system with their smaller engines. You can buy Suzuki Diagnostic System (SDS) which consists of software and cables that will “read” the engine data and hours. Again not sure if Suzuki SDS is supported in their smaller engines, your dealer should know.

I don't see anything about this in the manual so wondering if someone owning or familiar with a small Suzuki can share their experience with me.
