  • df20a High Press fuel pump problem

Hey guys, got a quick question for any suzuki techs or gurus out there. I've been a Merc tech for 15 years now (don't shoot!) and I'm trying to help a customer with a df20a fuel problem and finding a manual is evidently an act of congress. I have traced the fuel delivery issue down to the high pressure pump, which will run for 2-3 sec while cranking and shut off. Doesn't really build any pressure, just almost times out. Everything checks out but when I check power at the pump pigtail (3 wire) it seems to have low voltage. Is the main and fuel relays in the ecu box or is this non serviceable? Ready to tell him to order a High pressure pump but I'd just like to make sure I'm not spending his $$ when it could be a pretty simple connection issue. Anyone input helps.
    Thanks Guys

    Try this
    Manualsonline dot com

When you turn the ignition key to 'on' you should hear several seconds of the high pressure pump running as it charges the high pressure fuel rail then it should shut off
Have you tried taking that apart to check the filter at the bottom of that pump?
This should give you a chance to check the float valve for proper adjustment and make certain it is operating properly
And I assume you already checked the low pressure pump

''''Why don't you connect up a gauge and check it, I would assume it would be the same as the four cylinder engines. When you turn the key on, battery voltage will flow through the fuel pump and out to the ecu and it will ground the ground side of the fuel pump wire for three seconds, and if the ecu does not receive a crank signal it will remove it. So you better check your supply voltage, your ground and make sure the crank sensor is functioning properly, you make no reference that the engine runs. Are you sure that the pump runs when cranking, if so it must be receiving a crank signal.

This is a tiller so there is no real "key on". Fuel supply through the VST all the way to the high pressure pump. Filter on the inlet side is clear. The pump will run for approximately 3 seconds before it shuts down while cranking. Aside from splicing in a gauge there's no real way to check the fuel pressure. Anyone know the psi it should be supplying? Im probably just going to order him a pump. Even when it's running it hardly puts out much fuel disconnected from the rail. Thanks for your input.
        Jared.
