  • Is Water Suppose to Exit Two Drain Holes on 2011 Suzuki DF50A When Flushing Engine

This is my first post to this forum and I am a first time boat owner of the 2010 16 foot Blue Wave boat with a 2011 Suzuki DF50A 4 stroke motor which I purchased used in January 2016. After using it for fishing from March - December 2016, I did my first annual maintenance on the motor in February 2017 (replaced fuel filter, anodes, impeller, upper and lower unit oil, spark plugs).

When replacing the impeller, I put some RTV silicone in three spots on the bottom of the impeller housing that holds the rubber gasket before placing it in place on the lower unit. The rubber gasket seemed a little loose after inserting it into the groove on the bottom of the impeller housing. Now looking back, when I re-installed the impeller housing, I'm not certain that the rubber gasket stayed within the groove on the impeller housing (see photos).

I am now questioning if I should drop the lower unit and re-install the impeller rubber gasket again based on water coming out of the two drain holes (near the transom side of the engine) when flushing the engine using muffs.

I would appreciate any advice from folks who have more experience with Suzuki outboard motors than I have. Please look at the photos while flushing the engine to see if the water being expelled looks normal. Sorry, but the photos appear to be turned sideways. Thanks for your feedback.

I don't have any first-hand knowledge of the DF50A. I have a DF150. So hopefully someone will have a more definite answer to your question. But I think it looks right that water would come out several places when flushing with the muffs. On my DF150, water comes out about 6 different places in addition to the tell-tale and the prop exhaust. It comes out those other places as soon as the faucet is turned on, well before starting the motor.

Most of these places where water comes out during a flush are actually additional water intakes during normal operation.
