  • Break in Maintenance, Two Questions

I have a new df150. The dealer I bought if from said I could do the service myself just make sure I keep the receipts. The dealer is a good ways away from where I live. I went to the local dealer to get the oil filter, motor oil and gear oil. He said only authorized dealers can do the break in service. He gave all these things you have to do that is not in the owners manual for 20 hr service. I got suspicious when he said he did not sell Suzuki oils that he used regular oil. He also said you could not use synthetic until you have 200 hours on the engine. Is any of this true?

If you look at the maintenance chart in your owners manual you will some items marked with an asterisk, those Suzuki "Recommends" an authorized Suzuki dealers perform those. Suzuki doesn't say it has to be done by a dealer, if you don't feel comfortable doing service yourself then you might want to take it to a dealer.
I don't break a motor in on synthetic oil( I tell my customers to wait until first 100 hour service), if you ask engine manufactures about it they usually say they haven't tested it therefore they can't recommend it.
