  • 250 Suzuki not reaching speeds expected

I purchased a new 730 (7.3 metre/ 24 foot) bar crusher hard top (Australian-made) plate aluminium with a 250 Suzuki outboard. ( the 300block )The prop is a stainless steel Suzuki prop 3x16x18 5R.The motor is only revving out to 2250 -2500 max achieving about 55Km (32 miles) per hr . the dealership have tried different prop sizes but actually went slower .

Tried changing the fuel line as it looked like it was sucking in on one of the bends. some short time improvements but back down again now. At one time on the water cruising along the boat actually took off to what i believed to be performing as it should, but only lasted for about 2 mins . any ideas as the same boat with a 225 motor is pulling over 75km (47 miles) per hr. the motor has done approx 25 hrs . any ideas?

What revs are you getting at WOT?

You said 2250-2500 and I am sure that is a typo!! I also see that 250 is the recommended max hp for that boat, so it should fly!!

If you meant 5250-5500 its not revving to its recommended range which is up around 6000rpm.

With that prop it should be OK.

Sounds like a fuel restriction, breather blocked, or possibly not getting full throttle. I would be back to the dealer to get them to sort it out. For the amount that rig cost you, you deserve the dealer's 100% attention and committment to get this sorted out.

(An idea - you could contact Bar Crusher. I will guarantee that they can tell you the best prop for that engine on that boat, what the correct negine mounting height should be, and the expected max speed etc!!)

Such a large proportion of issues we hear about on this forum are not actually Suzuki problems, they are so often fuel or electrical system issues on the boat, or poor installation issues.

Where in Aus are you located? The Isa? Who is your local Suzuki dealer?
