  • Recommendations for SS Propeller on a DF140ATX

I recently purchased a Suzuki DF140ATX to re-power my 2000 Dauntless 18. Currently powered by a 2000 Merc Optimax 135. Was wondering if any one would have input on a Suzuki SS Proper pitch for this boat. Boat is 2000 lbs. without fuel and passengers? Can handle up to seven passengers and a max of 150 hp engine. Thanks for your comments and input.

There a great sticky with info on this discussion. A lot of people powered by the DF140 run a 3 blade 14" 17 - 19 pitch. I imagine the lighter boat could run a 19 and still have a great hole shot, loaded down.

Thanks briscoe for that input, now I just have to figure out how to navigate to the discussion you were referring to. This helps quite a bit, as a matter of fact I was thinking a SS 14" x 20" but maybe a SS 14" x 18" would be better.

The Suzuki 3 x 14 x 20 stainless prop is a very commonly used prop on both the 125 and 140 engines when the engine/boat combo is well matched.

The issue of course is that you only ever really know if the prop used is in fact a good match when you get on the water and test it. Boat weights, hull design etc all make it as much of a art as a science.

But the 14 x 20 is probably a good starting point. You should ask the installing dealer if they have done installs on similar hulls before and what they used. Its the dealer’s responsibility to make sure the prop is well matched when the engine is installed, so have a chat with them and make sure there is a clear understanding that props will be swapped at no charge at the commissioning of the engine until you are satisfied and the engine is performing in the correct rev range.

The sticky thread on engine heights and props explains how to select the correct prop and set engine height. This info should be helpful to you once you get the engine installed and start checking how the chosen prop is performing.

Also here is a link to Suzuki USA website page on the 140A.

Click on the boat tests tab, there are many boats that have been tested listed there, you should be able to find something that’s similar to your boat and you can see the prop they used and the rpm that they achieved.

Thank you Moonlighter for your input also. Well noted and will discuss with the installing dealer to get their input.
