Man I have had some terrible luck with these engines. Port engine is running rough now, won't idle sometimes. Went to crank it one time and it acted like it was hydra-locked... the flywheel would turn less than 1 revolution and stop. It did this maybe 3 times and then it turned over like normal and started up. It has a brand new battery, battery cables and terminals are all clean. Won't start without advancing the throttle a bit sometimes. Checked plugs and 1,2, and 4 are dry. #3 is wet. Acts like it's running on 2-3 cylinders for a minute or two then runs normal. Ohmed through both coils, both are within spec primary and secondary. Checked the oil and it looks a little milky, level is elevated, smells like gas. Checked the thermostat and it's stuck open. I understand that can cause fuel to get into the oil? I pulled the fuel pump off the valve cover, squeezed the bulb but didn't see any fuel leaking by the piston. It has not given off any codes.
I am praying that I don't have to tear this one down and replace the head like I did the starboard side.
If you are getting fuel into the oil, will it alter the color of said oil? It feels thin and smells like gas, but it has a brownish hue to it. What would cause the hydra-lock? What other tests can I perform on the fuel pump? I have a new thermostat on the way. Going to change the oil, install new stat and see what happens. Always something!
