  • 8 Pin vs 16 pin connection question

I know there has been a great deal of threads related to the white wire question. I have a 2005 DF140. It has an 8 pin connection. It also has a small gray connection. The 8 pin harness does not have that gray square connection but the 16 pin does. Do I need a separate wire? I have already hooked up the 8 pin harness with the two wires (white & red). I have no power to the control or key switch. I am assuming it has to do with the gray square connection. Anyone have any ideas?

Can you supply a bit more information, is it just a no start you are chasing or rewiring, you need to have battery voltage on the white supply feed which will go to the ignition switch where it is piggy backed then your white wire with a red trace will supply power to the trim switch.

Get your test light and follow the white wire in the loom back down to where it gets its supply from, on a 2005 model it should come off battery pos via a 15 amp fuse. Check with your test light both sides of the 16 pin plug at the engine.

First, I am installing the motor on a 1994 Bayliner Trophy. I picked up the motor used as well as the harness. I believe I may have found the problem. Everything matches up on the 8 pin harness. From motor right up to controls/key switch/kill switch. I think I am missing the EMC battery cable. I think that is the small gray connector at the boat. Am I right? Without that I believe I would have no chance starting it?
