Engine problems

Hi I am new to this forum and I hope you will excuse me if this post or similar post has been posted before. I have recently acquired a second hand Suzuki 4.5hp outboard motor I am trying to solve a problem that has developed soon after I took it for a run on a sea inlet in Scotland. Firstly I can’t seem to find any kind of workshop manual. The details of the engine are as follows.
Model: DT4.5
S/N DT4.5-11119
Max out-put: 4.5/6000
Continuous: 3.9/5,500
When I first run the engine it ran well with typical responses, later that day I tried to run the engine again, it started well but stopped within a few seconds after using the throttle, cutting out. After this it would not restart, I have replaced the old spark plug with the recommended (Champion QL86C) this has made no difference. I have also striped down and refitted the carburetor (nothing obvious). Not sure if this is a fuel or electrical problem can anyone help.

Have you checked to see if have spark at spark plug? If have spark the squirt a little gas in throat of carb to see if will run for a second, if does fire up then it's not getting any fuel from carb.

Hi Thanks for the info, have not fully checked electrical side yet. would you know if there is a replacement carburetor or substitute carburetor for this engine? Zusuki DT4.5 two stroke. Also is there a model number / description for the cab? as this might help with my searches. I live in the UK and I am finding it hard to find parts. Thanks in advance

This Suzuki Marine carb 13200-98018 SUPERCEEDED BY 13200-98020 is used on these models and components:

1977 DT4.5LB Carburetor

1977 DT4.5SB Carburetor

If you locate the part# you want/ need, you can try and google that number with the item name. It might be possible someone had a motor and may sell parts from it?

Other than that, for that old motor (it says only made in 1977), you could post an add for a junk motor, might get lucky?
