  • Need Help With SMIS Display Gauges

Have 4 SMIS 4inch gauges with 2011 twin 225s two of the gauges were displaying the RPMs for each motor. Was having trouble with one of the motors, it stopped running and had a check engine alarm. Do not know what the alarm was. Changed fuel separator and fuel filter motor still would not start. Pulled some fuses on motor to see if they were blown or not, they looked good so put them back in. Motor started and seems to run fine now. However cannot get it to display RMPs or any other info for that motor on SMIS now. Any Ideas?

It could be a physical wiring issue since you have been doing stuff on the engine end wiring.

First thing whenever data goes missing is to check the network device list and see if both engines are still listed. Are they? Both engines keys must be at the on position.

If one engine is missing on the network device list, then that engine’s interface cable may have failed, or a physical connection between it and the network has come loose or been damaged. So check the interface cable connection to the T piece, and also, at the engine end, check the plug from the harness to the SDS plug. The same plug is used to connect the laptop to when the engine is serviced so it does get unplugged quite a bit, so check that plug and look for loose or broken wires.

If all that looks good then the most likely thing is that the interface cable has failed. Now, you need to BE VERY CAREFUL to get the correct interface cable running the right software version to suit your engine. A 2011 engine will need a version 2.9.4 interface cable.
