  • Fuel Flow problem DF115A

    Hello

    My boat setup:

    -2016 DF115A
    -SMIS engine adapter V3.5
    -Lowrance NMEA 2000 GPS device
    -Paddle wheel sensor
    -Suzuki SMIS (LMF400) Gauge V 2.6.0.

All another values are ok (hours, speed etc) except:

Fuel Flow value is unbelive. It shows too high values 10 times too much.
    200 l/h at cruising speed.

Is gauge version 2.6.0 too old for a new DF115A model (lean burn engine)???
Are there some settings for calibrate the gauge?

    Thank you
    Seppo

SMIs guage version 2.7.0 is now recommended for 2013 and later engines. I will update the sticky thread on this forum.

You can download SMIs V2.7.0 from here:

Suzuki | LOWRANCE | Marine Electronics

However it Requires a lowrance or Simrad display (eg a HDS or NSS) on our nretwork to upload the software to your SMIS gauges. Or your Suzuki dealer should be able to do it for you.

Hopefully that will fix the issue - however, it seems strange to me that you are having this problem, because it usually only occurs when you are running the wrong Suzuki interface software version to suit your engine.

So I cannot be sure that the SMIS software update will fix it. But that seems to be the only thing wrong in your stated setup.

Are you certain that the interface is running V 3.5.0? That is the correct version for a 2016 year engines.

      Hi Moonlighter

I bought this cable, so it should be correct one:

SMIS GAUGE ENGINE INTERFACE CABLE 990C0-88149-350

Could the problem be wrong settings in SMIS Gauge? Calibration?

Also fuel meter shows all the time 0% (Empty). Even i use Refill Tank function.

There are no SMIS settings that would cause the issue you described.

Calibration will only correct fuel flow errors that are within +- 10%, and your error far exceeds that. Far.

The "fuel meter" you refer to is probably a tank level indicator - unless you have a NMEA2000 sender unit on your fuel tank and connect it to the network, it will not work, so it always be zero.

When first setting the network up, did you set the fuel tank capacity, engine location (centre) and number of engines? This is critical. If not done, go back and do it before doing anything else. Then check fuel flow again.

Your fuel flow at idle speed, when the engine is warm, should be about 0.8 litres per hour, or the equivalent in gph. You can do the conversion!

If you set those things up properly, and then you refill the tank and go into the fuel menu and select refill, then the fuel used should reset to zero and the fuel remaining will show the same as the tank capacity. Note: when you do this, and you fill the tank, you must NOT input the amount of fuel added. You only input the actual amount of fuel added when you only partly fill the tank or when you calibrate.

The ONLY times I have seen fuel flow to be wrong by a factor of 10x like you have described is when there is a software incompatibility. And this has always been when a new version interface software is being used with a older engine.

So your problem is quite baffling.

You should try updating the SMIS software to V2.7.0. It might fix it, but I dont give it a strong chance. But try it anyway.

If that does not fix the problem, my view is that your interface cable has faulty software, so I would suggest exchanging it for a new one - talk to your supplier, explain the problem, and ask their assistance for an exchange.

                Hello

After updating LMF-400 to 2.7.0. fuel flow will works now. But:
Now "fuel remaining" shows all the time full tank(105 Liters) and not decreasing.
If i choose "fuel used" it shows all the time 0 Liters.

Do i need now SMIS memory device?

No! Do NOT ADD THE MEMORY DEVICE!!

The suzuki interface cable has one built in. Adding another one would be a very bad idea and will make things worse.

When you update the software, you should now go into the config menu and check all settings are still correct.

Then, in device list mneu, select the option to auto select data sources. This should fix it.

If not, I suggest you take the boat to your dealer and get them to check everything and get it set up for you so that everything works properly. I think we have done as much as we can do for you on the forum - it needs someone who knows what they are doing to be there in person and to check it all out and get it sorted for you.
