  • 25hp available sensors?

Brand new 2017 25hp, brand new to post. Boat has not even been in the water yet. I am interested in what sensors are available for this motor and where to get started. I do have a lowrance 7ti . And a motor guide ix5 trolling motor to hook up to the lowrance. I am a little familiar with nmea 2000. But just getting educated.

You can connect this engine to a NMEA2000 network and thus get quite a bit of engine data and fuel data - and you will be able to use your Lowrance Elite ti to display this data.

Have a read of the info paper attached to this post for more info:

Thanks Moonlighter. I will read the article you linked.
Do I need to buy a bunch of sensors and cables ? Or just link up the nmea2000?
I planned to get the nmea2000 starter kit to hook up my motor guide trolling motor.

If you are creating a NMEA2000 network so the trolling motorcan be connected to the Lowrance, then its easy to also add the engine connection to the network as well. The engine interface cable comes with a T piece so you just add it to your network and connect the interface cable. Plesse read the paper in the link.

You messaged me a bunch of other questions that I will answer here:

        - Just make sure your Ti is running the latest software. To be certain that it will display engine data, check your owners manual and make sure it shows that there are engine data pages available.

If you read the paper I linked in the earlier reply, you will see that connecting via the interface cable will give you a bunch of engine data, like rpm, temp, voltage, fuel flow rate, fuel used (trip and seasonal), trim. You dont need any other sensors to get all that data. What else do you want??

        You asked:
        1. What is mfd? Mfd stands for multi-function display. Your Elite ti is one!
        2. What is miss - not sure what that is.
        3. I have seen a cope quotes that a lowrance 7ti womt work for reading engine data - the early Elites didnt show engine data. Look in your manual. Or, look at the pages available when you have the unit turned on. You should find one that looks like a dashboard. If not, maybe yours doesnt have engine data display capability. How old is it??

Should I start withe the lowrance nmea starter kit? Yes. It has all the parts needed to create your network. Far less expensive than buying the components individually.

Hooked up to the network will be a motor guide ix5 trolling motor, 7ti, and and maybe an older lowrance unit. I think 522c. I will at least hook this up to the transducer on the trolling motor.
Yes, you can connect them all up to the NmEA2000 network and they will then communicate with each other.

Sounds like I need a 3.5 volt interface cable. I did not see any at suzuki marine for a motor older than 2011. - Yes you will need a Version 3.5.0 interface cable.

Moonlighter thanks for the info. i now have the interface cable and all the tees and cables to hook up engine trolling motor 522c and elite 7ti. and updated software.
just went out to hook up interface cable to 25hp suzuki. and cant find any open plugs.

i did find a two wire plug with a weird cap on the end . This plug seems to match the two wire plug on interface cable . But they are both female plugs. and cant find anywhere for the larger plug.

i have seen a reference to an adapter plug.
I would think there would be two open plugs on the motor or a Y type adapter plug.

I will move onto the trolling motor for now.Thanks...

I believe it did work using the plug for the motor warning lights.
I did set up some stuff come up on the Elite 7TI. not sure how much of that was from the update. it did bring up a dashboard with guages. It looked like it was doing some communicating. there was some data flow info in the diagnostics page. I will try to get it in the water tonight.
The motor guide trolling motor,ix5, i guess i need to order a gateway cable 230$. It never ends...

If I understand you correctly, I don't think your connection is going to work. I have a DF25A motor, and I also started by connecting the Engine Interface Cable to the connector that goes to the motor lights. Instead, you need to connect to the "Diagnostic Port", which I think is the other connector you found. I described my efforts a year ago in this post:

                http://www.suzukioutboardforum.com/s...html#post18631

And if you'll read the next few posts in that thread, I posted some photos of my eventual working connection.

The motor 4 wire plug and the interface cable 4 wire plug are both male.
the other plug in my hand , i think is for trim. 20170526_162414.jpg

I believe the 2 wire plug with the funny plug in the end is for trim. But it is the exact identical plug on the interface cable
The 4 wire plug goes to the warning lights on front of engine.

                            2014df25 is correct.

You must connect to the diagnostic port plug, please put back the connector to the warning lights as it was. This is essential so those warning lights still work.

And yes, the SDS (diagnostic port plug) is the same s e x as the interface cable, so as per the info in my forum resource paper, you will need an "SDS adapter cable" to connect the interface cable to that plug.

The 2 pin plug on the interface cable is not used on newer motors, it is for the trim data on older engines.

It appears i need this cable between the interface cable and the motor. ...Suzuki SIMS Adapter to SDS 990C0-88136
will i then be able to use my Lowrance elite 7ti to see all the data?
or do i need a sims gauge?
                              Thanks...
