  • Real world difference DF175 vs DF200A?

I'm looking to use one of these to repower an '80's Whaler Outrage 22.

On my last Whaler, an Outrage 18, I had a DF140A. I liked the boat best when setup somewhat under propped, so I had quick holeshot with a heavy load. The boat was still fast enough at 40mph at 6200, regardless of load.

I'm curious to hear if anyone has any first hand knowledge of how the DF175 compares the 200A. Is the low rpm torque the same? Is the 200 significantly stronger? I'm thinking that the 175, setup as I did with the 140, might be all I need?

    Thanks

Ok, not quite the comparison you are looking for, but, I went from a df140 on my 21' ocean boat to a df175. The 175 has a lot of low end torque and grunt compared to the 140. Everything I have read, the 200 develops most of the extra HP in the upper RPM range. If I were to guess, I bet if you put 2 identical boats next to each other with the 175 and 200 on each, they would be neck and neck up to about 4000 rpm before the 200 would start pulling away.

For comparison reasons, I am running a DF175 on a 21'6" fairly deep V hull and total weight about 3300 lbs. Top speed is 43 mph @6100 rpm running a 16"x21.5 pitch.

I really want to try a 16x20 prop. I am thinking it may be a better fit.

      Thanks Shawn.

What are you including within that 3300lbs?
I think I'm about 4000 with fuel fuel and two people aboard

The boat minus motor is 2150 lbs, 500 lbs for the motor, 100 lbs for the kicker, and the rest fuel, gear, and 3 people. So probably closer to 3500-3600 lbs.
