  • Grey wire on na12s control box low voltage

New member here with a problem. Just got a boat with a df70 4 stroke on it and they gauges weren't working. Tested the sending unit ohms and it tested out ok. So I ran the grey wire from the control box to the ignition and light connections on the fuel and tach gauge. The tach worked but not the fuel. Last night I took the fuel gauge out and now I can't get either to come on. Checked the voltage of the grey wire and it's only 2 to 3 volts. It comes from the ignition and then splits, on to the main harness and the other to the gauges. Any ideas why it's dropping voltage? I checked all connections and they are good. Thanks for any info.

Maybe the wiring is different but
The gray wire off the ignition is the main power to the ECM
It does have a split that goes through a 10a fuse, then a red/green wire to what the book refers to as the meter illumination switch ( Which I take as the NAV lights in my set up)
Off that red/green wire, there is a gray wire that feeds power to each gauge
I would not mess with the gray wire- the ECM is very voltage sensitive
I think the 2-3 volt reading is feedback
With the ignition key in the on position it should read 12V
If the gray wire is not reading -12 with the key in the on position
Then start back tracking the white wire back to the battery and btw the white
Wire also has a builtin 10

Thanks for the reply. I figured it out. The grey wire was putting out 12v. It was a bad ground. Got both gauges back in and they work. What a relief. Thanks again
