Shifting into gear out of water?

Hi all,

So I replaced the impeller and before I put the boat back into the water I want to test if everything is connected correctly. Is it safe to put the OB into forward and reverse gear when connected to ear muffs? I’ve read different things. Is it safe to put the OB into gear for a few sec?

Its not recommended, simply for safety reasons.

However if you make sure that the muffs dont foul the prop, I dare say you wont be the first one to do it..... but I wouldnt rev it beyond idle speed.

You could of course take the prop off first.
