  • Code to reset fuel usage

Is there a way to 'lock' the reset fuel function on a Suzuki DF200 2018? I would like to have authorised people only reset it. Thank you in advance

No such ability to my knowledge. Its not the engine anyway, its the gauges that do the fuel reset.

That seems like a strange situation? How/why would “unauthorised people” be playing with your gauges??

So, which gauges do you have?? There are at least 2 different gauges likely to be found on a 2018 Suzuki setup.

We will be chartering the rib and we were thinking of charging fuel depending on the 'fuel used' gauge, however someone brought it to our attention that there were cases where people reset the gauge mid charter to pay less.

The gauge should be an SMG4, but I stand to be corrected.

        Yes, that is SMG4.

Resetting fuel used cannot be locked to my knowledge. I cant imagine Suzuki including such a feature, it wouldnt be something many customers would ask for.

Ive been on this forum for many years and a couple of others dealing with Suzukis and you are the first person I have heard raise this idea!

Having said that, its also not an obvious thing in the gauge menu. There is no “press this button to reset fuel” in the gauge menu. You have to know to hold the down arrow on the fuel used. So I doubt that many casual hires would even know how or be able t9 figure it out!

I am trying to think of another way to keep track of fuel data. One possible that I can think of is using Simrad’s TripIntel feature. That of course means that you would need a Simrad GO series or NSS display on the network, plus a Simrad Fuel Data Manager device. With the FDM device configured, the Tripintel feature records all trips details including a bunch of useful info such as fuel used, average and max speed, etc. and it records total fuel used, seasonal fuel used as well as keeping a chart showing each trip gps snail trail. If you google Simrad TripIntel you will find videos explaining it.

Unless a hirer knew about this feature they wouldn't know what it records and wouldnt know how to delete trip details. But you never know.....

At the end of the day I think the only 100% foolproof method is to fill the tank at the end of the hire and charge f9r actual fuel used.

Thank you for the Simrad TripIntel info. I will definitely be checking that out. It would be great if Suzuki can incorporate a code to reset as unfortunately they are real situations from whom is familiar with the system. A simple youtube/google search can also give the info on how to do it.

I agree with your fool proof method of charging by the bar. That is plan B.

Thanks again, you have been very helpful. Much appreciated!

P.S. I am usually that kind of person who comes up with odd requests

Can I kindly ask you what gps and pitometer, apart from a Suzuki one, do you suggest to go with that system?

As far as GPS input is concerned, any NMEA2000 GPS antenna will do the job to send speed data to the engine gauges. And for example, if you add a MFD such as the aforementioned Simrad NSS or GO series, their internal GPS antennas are very accurate and will easily do the job. As will other manufacturers MFD’s.

From there, it then depends on whether you want or need a true compass sensor eg to be used for autopilot. In that case you have to look at more expensive options.

The Suzuki engines have a pitot tube so they can read water speed, in fact in the SMG4 initial settings the default setting for speed is actually water speed, you have to go in and turn that speed source off so that it then uses GPS speed to do speed related calculations such as mpg.

Other than that I dont know anything more about water speed sensors, dont use them myself.
