Issues finding neutral

At times I’m finding it difficult to shift into neutral on my 2004 DF250. Is there an adjustment or something that I can try to make that easier? I have my binnacle to the perfect resistance for normal use so I’m hoping it’s some kind of cable adjustment.

Changing the worn cable fixed the issue on my motor.

Thanks cprice can you now shift easily from forward to neutral to reverse? Right now it’s hard for me to not go from forward to straight to reverse.

I took the cable loose at the motor and shifted it there to find the problem , there's probably a detent on a "cam" that needs checking.,
