  • Minimum GPS requirements for Suzuki network

Since my Lowrance equipment doesn't play nice with my 2016 DF300AP, I'm going to create two networks. My 300 came with a Lowrance Point-1 that I need for my Lowrance autopilot, so I'm looking to add a new Lowrance GPS puck for the Suzuki network.

My question....Does my Suzuki require the Point-1, or can I use a Lowrance LGC puck to get all the data needed for the C10? Any other viable, and cheaper, options than the Point-1?

Any Lowrance or Suzuki, Garmin etc GPS puck will work as long as it outputs NMEA2000 data.

If you have any MFD display (sounder/GPS combo) that you could connect to the Suzuki metwork, it will use that MFD's internal GPS antenna as well.

Curious as to the problems with your Lowrance gear playing nice with the 300 AP??

Whenever the lowrance autopilot is connected to the Suzuki n2k network, all types of strange things happen. Remove the autopilot from the network and everything is fine. Below are some of the codes that just don't make sense. I've moved the n2k cables all around trying to find something it's happy with but it just doesn't work. Worked fine with just my HDS's, but the autopilot throws it off.

10+ codes at a time, including some that aren't valid numbers, such as 'Eng 4-4, Eng 4-6, Eng 5-4, Eng 5-5, Eng 6-3.
'Eng High Oil Temp' when the motor hasn't even been run recently. 'Eng Remote Key Battery Low' when I don't even have that option.

i'm open to suggestions as I'd like to connect them all together one day, but for now I'm just picking up a second puck and separating the networks.

Just to post a follow up here to make sure there's no misinformation. I got a new point-1 and seperated my networks only to find that the problem still exists, but didn't come back until i had about 2 hours on it. Nothing else changed over the winter other than adding the autopilot so i figured that was my culprit. After reading countless hours of information on gremlins in n2k I've decided to just live with it until i have another reason to drop it off at suzuki.

Sounds like a software incompatibility issue to me. But where is hard to know ....? possibly between the autopilot and the gauges or autopilot and the interface. Are you running the latest Lowrance software on the HDS units??

What gauges are you running? The old round Suzuki SMIS gauges can be very problematic with the new 16 AP motors......error codes and the like. I gather the C-10's are much better.

Good luck, let us know if you get anywhere.

I separated the networks. Worked fine all of last year, took it all apart to add the autopilot and it was screwy. Figured it had to be the addition of the autopilot so i put the suzuki network by itself and an still having the issue. I'll report back if i ever figure it out.

If you have a HDS Gen3, try this - Go to Settings, Advanced, Features and uncheck Autopilot.

Put the networks back together, replaced 8 tees with 2 blocks to eliminate tee issues. Same issue. I'll keep poking

Found something interesting today. Pulled up Suzuki data on my lowrance and it doesn't lose data when my c10 does. Checked c10 connection and it's only a nmea 2k connection. Maybe it's just my c10?

Edit! This is misinformation, the data removed itself from the lowrance as well. I had the suzuki lowrance screen set up to not display the data that was missing.

                    Could be.

Check the C-10 software version. Suzuki says with 2013 and newer you should run C10 version 1.1-50.2.125.

You can download this from Suzuki | LOWRANCE | Marine Electronics

Did you try my earlier suggestion re unchecking autopilot?

I'll check that c10 version. I have a gen2 touch, does the same apply?

Yes. Give it a try, might work...

My c10 has 1.1-50.2.124, no 125. Just to be clear though, this did work perfectly all last year with 124 on it.

I replaced the 2.9 upgrade to 3.5 interface cable today with a new factory 3.5 interface cable. Same issue.

Still forgot to uncheck autopilot, that's my next step.

                          As a side note, my c10 threw, I'm guessing, every single code today, including options that I don't have and codes that don't exist in the list. I got 1-1 1-2 1-4 1-5 1-6 2-1 2-2 2-3 2-4 2-5 2-6 3-1 3-2 3-3 3-5 3-6 3-7 4-1 4-2 4-3 4-4 4-5 4-6 5-1 5-2 5-3 5-4 6-1 6-2 6-3 7-1 7-2 7-3 7-4 7-5 8-1 8-2 8-3 'Eng Change Oil' 'Eng Water In Fuel' 'Eng Check Starting Procedure' 'Eng SYNC' 'Eng Check Control Unit Communication' 'Eng Check 2nd Station' 'Eng Rev Limit' 'Eng Set Limit Angle' 'Eng High Oil Temp' 'Eng Remote Key Battery Low'.

                          This is getting ridiculous.

I got it. 5 hours since fixed and no issues. I upgraded from .124 to .125 and replaced the terminators. Everything works great, finally, although I'm not sure which one fixed it.

                            Thanks for the help moonlight

I reckon that the upgrade of the C-10 software to V xxxx.125 was likely the solution.

Good work on getting it right. We know with these systems that you have to line up the engine year with the right interface cable SW version and the right gauge software for it all to work properly and reliably. Now, dont change anything!!

And even then sometimes you need to cross your fingers, eyes and toes! LOL!

Chance of a terminating resistor being bad = very low.
