1987 Suzuki DT 150 SS trim wiring

My mastiff chewed the wires from the trim motor to the wiring harness under the hood. I can splice these wires but was wondering if they have to be completely waterproof? they are pretty short at the trim motor side. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you dont want them to corrode and fail, then they need to be waterproof.

Use double wall glue lined shrink tube to protect the joins. If you can't get that, single wall, and put some sika on the join then addd he shrink tube over that.
