  • Hydrodrive hydraulic steering fitment?

    Hi all,

I have a 2009 DF90A that I'd like to upgrade the cable steering on.

I have read great reviews on the hydrodrive system and its approx $300 cheaper than the alternatives (here in Canada).

The one thing that concerned me was I saw an extension specifically for suzuki outboards on another website (who sells the hydrodrive). It appears to widen the steering bar.

Does anyone have any experience with this product or know if our suzuki's have a wider mounting surface than most outboards?

    Thanks!

I bought one last month but weather has prevented me from installing. It seems to be a high quality unit. I think mine is the next smaller size, I plan to put it on a DF25 V-twin. Shipping was via FedEx and it actually showed up quickly. They have a no feedback model, probably what you want on the bigger motor. I wish I could tell you more about it but all I've done is check all the parts and put it on the shelf waiting for warmer weather.

Other choices in this price range are direct from China for about the same $$.

I've looked at the Hungarian Hydrodrive system, but for my boat the rod that goes into the tilttube seems too long for the available space (ca. 30cm) between the tilttube opening and the splashwell side.
This means the engine would have to be taken off to insert that rod...
Another question for me is how the cylinder will affect the tilting of the engine out of the water.

SeaStar/BayStar is the Suzuki preferred brand (that is, it's included in the Suzuki catalogue) and have two seperate parts that go into the tube.

Its a bit cheeky of them to call it Hydrodrive.....

There is a long established high quality Australian made brand called Hydrive. Have it on my boat, very reliable, no issues in 11 years, havent touched it.

I would prefer a Baystar system but my motor is not listed as application. The Hydrodrive said it was compatible. Some of the reviews on the Hydrodrive mentioned cutting a hole in the splash well side to get the tube in.

I'm interested in Hydrive's side mounted hydraulic solution. Nice to read you are happy with this brand.

I installed the side mount unit on my previous boat.

Did the install myself. Pretty straightforward job. They include very clear instructions and if you follow them meticulously you have no problems.

They’re intended for smaller hp engines, I had mine first on a 70hp Yamaha and then upgraded that boat to a 90hp Toharsu TLDI.

It handled both of them easily and reliably for the 6 or so years I had it before selling that boat.

They're called Comkit Sport these days. Spec says up to 135HP, but 90Hp 'optimum', so mabye not so strong for my 115.
I only have some 30cm clearance in my splashwell, so another doubt.
But I like the concept with the ram fully enclosed and the cylinder/hoses static, unlike the centre mount units that appear more vulnerable.
