  • 2016 DF25A stalls at high speeds

My new DF25A sunk with my new micro skiff a few months ago. After getting the boat out of the water I immediately rinsed it off, pulled the plugs and pulled the starter rope getting all water out of the cylinder head. I then sprayed fogging oil into each cylinder. I replaced the oil (no water in oil) and filter. I replaced new fuel and new plugs. Long story short I was able to get the motor to run again. BUTTTTT after running for 20 minutes the motor would not idle anymore. To shorten my nightmare up this is what has been done so far. I replaced the following: wire harness, ECU, low pressure pump, starter, plugs, fuel filter and of course new fuel.

This is what it is doing and I need help. It idles nice. Took it out on the water and when I accelerated to get the boat on plane after a minute the motor chugged then stalled. I was able to start it again and it did the same thing. When reeving the motor in neutral it will have high rps then low and cycle high and low and not really give me a strong roar. Could this be a high pressure fuel pump problem ? I checked the pump and it appears to run for a second when ignition switch is turned on then it stops. If not the high pressure pump what could it be? Need Help!!!!

Just to get one of the obvious options out of the way: The behavior you describe is exactly what my DF25A did after I replaced the primer bulb in the fuel line. (I had found that one of the valves had come out of the original bulb when the motor was about a year old.) When I started troubleshooting, I realized I had installed the bulb backwards! The arrow was pointing toward the tank rather than the engine. The motor would run normally for about 30-60 secs, then stall to an idle. I could turn it off and start it again, and it would run for another 30-60 secs. I think there must be enough fuel in the line and filter to run for about 30 seconds, then it was starved for gas. When it stalled, it would run indefinitely at idle, but when I ran up the RPMs it would stall after about 30 secs.

When you try to rev in neutral, you know there's a limiter in the engine that will stall at I think 2,000 RPM to avoid damaging the engine. That sounds normal. Mine does the same thing. If I rev in neutral using the start lever, it will rev up, then cycle down and up.

Yes finding there is a rev limit so thanks for responding feel better knowing that your revs the same way. Will buy new primer bulb and try maybe being under water might have damaged it thanks! Did you purchase Suzuki bulb or just any generic bulb?

I bought a generic bulb after seeing that the factory bulb had failed in its first year... But I'm no expert - as you can tell by the fact that I installed it backwards! Got mine at Wal-Mart. ;^)

As a test before buying a new one, you could just remove yours and see if the engine runs any longer.
