  • Dt25c 1999 HELP!!

I have a 1999 dt25c I'm having carb issues with. A friend borrowed it and brought it back messes up. I found that the head gasket had blown but he thought it was carb issues and knew what he was doing and started messing with them. It was taken to a guy that's supposed to be a Suzuki man and told me the motor was junk I couldn't do anything with it that why I pulled it apart and figured out it was just a head gasket. Back to my point the 3rd carb doesn't have a screw in the top left hole I was told it should have but appon inspection I don't see where one would have been and the few pictures I've seen of carb that match don't seem to have them either. I was just told they had it on the water and after they finally got it running it idled rough and couldn't get much power out of it. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!!

First, did you fix the head gasket?
If your friend messed with carbs, did he change anything? Did he take them apart?

Post back what he did to the carbs, so we can proceed?

Yea I did personally replace the head gaskets. I'm not 100% sure what he did to the carbs he just told me that he adjusted them. I assume he started randomly playing with different screws till he was confused. I started from square one got the book out and I adjusted the what I thought was the air fuel mixture screw to lightly seated and turned out one full turn and another half. The only thing that really has me confused is there isn't a screw on the third carb. The jet is in the upper side and it has the fuel bowel adjuster screw in the bottom right of carb.

This is what I'm talking about in the 3rd carb this hole seems as though it has never had anything in it while on the upper two carbs this hole has the air fuel adjuster screw

The parts page shows all three carbs have the same air mixture screw located at the top left (back) side above the throttle linkage for each carb (set each of these at the 1.5 turns open, from lightly seated). The screw located in the top middle of each carb is a pre-set size set screw (not adjustable), AND each carb has a different size set-screw. The top carb should have size #65 stamped on it, the middle carb stamped with #95, and the bottom carb #75. These screws must be in the correct carb.

According to parts page all three carbs look the same? You should compare the parts page to what you have. The biggest difference i see, is the throttle sensor on the middle carb. Hopefully he didn't damage/mess with this.

Good luck, post back when able to let us know.

I saw that the parts page shows all 3 carbs having that air mixture screw but looking at the carbs the 98,99 carbs are the only two years of their kind. There are no threads on that hole if you look at the picture I provided for anything to screw into. I was really hoping someone would have a 98,99 they could look at or had delt with one and knew for sure if it should be one in there. I have scoured the internet for pictures on that years of carbs and have had no luck! Thanks for your help

For anyone still following I cleaned out the carbs today and discovered a lot of gunk in the bottom of the bowls. They each soaked for an hour dismantled then got a good washing washing out with some carb cleaner. While this seems to have helped there still seem to be some issues. While I had the 3rd carb apart I looked over it as closely as I possibly could even broke out the magnifying glass and discovered my thought were correct there is not a air fuel mixture screw in the third carb. The casting is there but is closed off there are no threads for a needle and the needle spring won't go in half as far as it should. How the 3rd carb is getting the air fuel mixture set I've no idea and honestly given up on trying to figure it out. Thanks to all whom have read these post and thank you solarman for trying to give some good advice on my issues. I'm putting the boat in the lake tomorrow and we're either going to come home running right or be paddling back to shore there will be no inbetween.

You can post a pic of your carbs here to help us see what you see?

When you soak carbs, you should always blow out all the little holes and pas-sages with compressed air.
Your bottom carb has an air mixture screw somewhere, this is why i say post a pic.

Let's stay on one thread, and not start other threads with this problem. Thanks.

                  Good luck.

I'm not one to accept defeat but I've found my self at a loss. We took the boat out today put it in the water we fired it right up it hits first crank and idles as smooth as a kitten purrs. We let it run for a few min and throw it in reverse and crap hits the fan. It was an absolute struggle to get it fired back up but after doing so I jam it in gear hit full throttle and pray for it to open up and scream. It proceeds to increase speed to just above wake speed and struggles to produce any power! While playing with the choke it goes back and forth between running fair but still under powered to cutting out even to dieing. Each start up after dieing took a full choke and increased throttle. To put it in gear involved jamming into gear up to full throttle with in seconds while getting the choke just right. I am at a 99% loss the only other thing I can check is the fuel filter. The primer bulb stayed hard as if it was keeping a solid prime the whole time. I'm at a loss and at the point of almost needing professionals help but lacking anyone in a 200 mile radius that will touch a Suzuki. For the record after we pulled it from the water I fired it strait up with no choke put in gear and laid it to the wood with zero problems. Any help or seggustions beyond fuel filter would be appreciated

It sounds like your main jets are still blocked, or it may be electrically related (throttle position sensor, gear counting coil, etc.)

When you removed carbs and bowls to soak/ clean, did you remove all the jets and float needle valve seat? Did you use compressed air to blow through all the holes?

If the fuel pump is good, and carbs are cleaned properly, then you should change plugs (i have known of bad plugs from store -new), then test the above mentioned electrical parts, by the manual.

Yes, i see the hole w/o threads, but it would help more to see pics of all three carbs in the same area.

Good luck, post back when able.

Ladies and gentlemen I'm as giddy as a school girl. After hours and hours I've finally found the problem to my Suzuki. I got the top and the bottom cylinder plug wires crossed....

Ok, it does amaze me that we all tend to forget to check the simple things.

                          Good luck, happy boating.
