  • 1999 DF40 Alarm Issue

I just purchased a skiff with a 1999 DF40. When idling for a few minutes the alarm sounds at about 6 seconds intervals. When I increase the rpms for 30 seconds of so, the alarm goes away. Could this be an issue with the charging system or a marginal battery?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Check if buzzer and caution light match the low battery voltage warning. Here's a link to a manual:

These engines demand good electrical power supply, or they will not play nicely!!!

      So make sure you:

Undo, clean, grease and retighten battery connections

Check battery cables - give them a bit of a flex around and see if they are still pliable - any "crunchy" feeling and youve got corrosion internally

Check main connections to starter motor, clean and righten

Load test battery to make sure its good, and keep it well charged.

Also, it may be wise to do a lower unit service on the motor and replace the water pump - not just the impeller, but do a complete kit including housing. Then you will know that one of the critical systems - cooling - is performing as it should and you will also have a solid baseline for future miantenance schedule. An oil change and filter for the engine wouldnt hurt either.

Thank you! The battery appears to have some age. I will start with a fresh battery.
