I have a 2003 DT225 that I just recently bought with a 22 foot Grady White. The former owner could not satisfactorily tell me when the last time the water pump was serviced, so I decided to remove the lower unit and check it out even though no problem was currently in play. I replaced the plate, gasket and impeller, put it all back together and fired it up but no flow through the telltale, so I shut it down and got a piece of stiff monofilament and pushed it up into the telltale portal. I fired it up again and still no flow, so I shut it down again and hooked up a hose to the flush port and the water flowed out of the telltale. I fired it up again and thought I could see some vapor or smoke coming out of the telltale, so I shut it down again and disconnected a water hose to the port side head and fired it back up and immediately saw exhaust fumes from the hose. I can't remember ever seeing that, so now I am faced with removing the lower unit and probably having to replace the new impeller. Does anyone have any ideas?
