  • Motor height ?

I was planning on raising my engine 1 1/2". Right now the cav. plate is even with the bottom of hull. Will this 1 1/2" hurt the cooling water pick up any? I really dont want to install a water guage. While on plane now the plate above the cav. plate is even with the water. Which is 2 1/4" above cave plate. Will this 1 1/2" up mess with water pickup any.? Thanks

No sir. You are still too deep for best performance. That horizontal "plate" above the anti-ventilation (cav) plate, should be well out of the water on most of the Suzukis (the big V-6 motors being an exception, in some cases). For this to happen, the anti-venilation plate has to appear to be 1-2" above the keel as observed out of the water. When properly trimmed and on plane, the anti-ventilation plate should be riding right on top of the water. Your motor will still be adequately cooled even if it is well above even that position. The water intakes are several inches below the plate.

I was unable to mount my DF150 on my boat high enough, and ended up mounting a hydraulic jack plate to raise the motor. This link, to a different forum, shows what I went through and my solution to the problem. https://www.triumphowners.net/thread...62/#post-46917. If you can't access the pictures, due to not being subscribed, a can find those pix and post them here if you wish.

Do be aware, however, that some conditions, such as hard turns and rough seas, will require the motor to be lowered a bit below this optimum position. But these adjustments should be adequately accomplished by lowering engine trim.

I just remembered that I also posted on this forum about my experiences with mounting height. This thread, posts #9 and 10.

On the pictures of the boat on plane, the motor is sitting at the 2½ setting. I now normally run with the jack plate set at 3½", one inch higher than in these pictures.

Thanks for the encouragement Harper. I took out the bolts last night. It is hanging right now 1 1/2" up. I will silicone the bolts today and bolt it up.

      Thanks again.
