  • Binnacle cover removal

I have a new Suzuki OB. The throttle won't hold position and I have to constantly keep a hand on it to maintain RPMs. I know that you can adjust throttle friction, but I can't for the life of me get the stupid cover off in order to access the tension screw.

I've removed the two cover screws and I can see that there are two retention pins on each side of the cover at the bottom. I guess the idea is to spread the cover enough to clear the pins, but I don't see a way to do that without buggering up the cover or the dash.

    Any suggestions?

I felt the same way when I tightened the friction on my throttle. Those pins were a hinderance. It did, however, spread enough to come on off. Just treat it gently and slip a small screwdriver up under it enough to pull it out and up off the pins.

Thanks. That's about what I thought. I don't miss my old Yamaha, but it sure was a lot easier to make this adjustment.

Haha. Yeah, I considered drilling a 3/8" access hole in the cover to access the friction screw......never did, but haven't had any more problems since adjusting it initially.

Many of those covers are designed to clip on the sides, so if you squeeze the top and bottom together the sides bow-out off the clips, and the cover should slide up easily.
To put on, just push back down, may need to squeeze to and bottom if not going over bracket.

            Good luck.

That's a good suggestion. I'll try squeezing it a little with a clamp.

Well, that worked like a charm! Came right off without any damage. Thanks Solarman!
