  • Lower unit alloy

Does anyone know what aluminum alloy is used to make the lower units of 2006 DF 175? I have the dreaded cracks starting at prop and creeping back sides of lower units. If i weld them, i figure it cant hurt to try to match the alloy. ?

It is cast and a real bitch to weld, very porous, if its been in salt its hell to get clean enough to tig let alone wire weld. What ever alloy rod or wire you use for 5052/5086 works as well as any.
I welded up1/2 of the cavitation plate on one side of my DF-175(2012) go slow & clean lots!!

        Your welcome.
That is not a half inch of cavitation, plate that's most of one side, took me 3 days grinding, cussing & throwing stuff. Sharpened lots of tungsten!
