  • Lmf400 interface issue with 2011 df150 HDS Gen 1. Fuel flow and check engine.

Hi. I've done as much research as I can without a solution. If these questions have been asked and solutions provided please kindly link to the answer.

    I have:

Single center mount 2011 DF150, regularly serviced and in good condition.

    2011 SIMS LMF 400.
Updated to Ver 2.6.0 boot 1-1.70 build MZ1454

    2011 Lowrance HDS7 Gen 1.
    Updated to 4.1

I'm getting the following Check Engine warnings which appear to be related to incompatible lmf400 firmware vs engine year.

    Check remote key
    Keyless unit battery low
    Check engine 9 - 4
    Check engine 9 - 5

Question 1: Do I need older firmware than 2.6 for the LMF 400 to with with a 2011 df150?

    Next question.

Ive calibrated the SIMS to year 2011, DF150.

Lowrance calibration auto reverts back to 2012 df175, regardless of me saving the change to 2011 DF150... Assume this is due to sharing the same ecu as the df150...

My fuel flow readings are way out of line.

    20gal per hour at idle.

56-70 gal per hour at cruise 4500 to full throttle 5600.

Recalibration does not seem to be correcting for such a large error.

Question 2: What do I need to do to get the SIMS or Lowrance to show close to true fuel flow?

    Good morning and welcome!

The key with the Suzuki networks is to get the SMIS display software version aligned with the correct software version on the Suzuki interface cable.

For your 2011 year engine, you should be running:

Suzuki interface software version 2.9.0 and
    SMIS software version 2.6.0

So, you said you already have SMIS sw version 2.6.0, you should just check what interface version you are running. In almost all cases like yours where fuel data is badly wrong, getting the right interface software version sorts it out immediately.

To do this, with the engine key turned to the on position, start up your HDS and go into the network menu, device list, select the Suzuki device and open. It will pop up a screen showing which version sw it is running.

Now, to install the correct software version, on this forum there is a sticky thread, I think 4th from the top, where I have provided lots of info about our Suzuki networks. You will see a link there to various software versions including to interface version 2.9.0

You can download it to your PC and copy the file to a SD card that will fit into your HDS. Then in the HDS, open the files menu, find the SD card, highlight the 2.9.0 update file and upload. Easy!

Now, on rare occasions v2.9.0 doesn't play nicely with 2011 year engines, if that happens, then Version 2.5.0 is the solution, again there's a link to download it in the sticky thread.

There are also more details in the paper attached to the sticky thread on how to upload software changes in case the info Ive provided here isn't enough.

Finally, the interfaces automatically detect the engine year and hp that they are connected to. But they detect them at the "family" level so, for example, a DF150 will typically show up as a Df175 because that is the largest hp in the 150/175hp "family". And often ecu' are shared across years so it will default to the first year.

So don't worry about what your engine is listed as in the SMIS menu or in the HDS menu, the only thing that does is to set the alarm parameters etc and doesn't affect fuel data.

    That should sort you out!

    P.S.

When did you get your Suzuki interface cable? If it's one of the new ones, with part numbers ending in -290 or -350, the sw can't be changed. Let me know if that is the case as you will need a different interface cable that can gphave its sw changed - see the info in my sticky thread for more info about this.

      Moonlighter,

The current interface version was 2.7.

I uploaded 2.9 and after a reset check engines went away anf fuel consumption is now accurate.

      Thank you.

        Good stuff!

Interface V 2.7.0 was an absolute dog, no wonder you were having problems!
