Hello, hope I can get some advice. I have a 2016 DF140A that was on a boat docked and bilge quit after rain and boat sank. approximately underwater for 3 hours. Motor was drained of all fluids and was replaced by insurance. I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the electronics computer etc, would be good since it was submerged. I am confident that even if the engine has corrosion inside i can take apart replace all rusted bearing and gaskets etc., motor only has 125 hours on it. It is for sale for 1500 and I am a good outboard mechanic but know nothing about the upper end electronics. I have messed mostly with carb motors.

I'd buy it for 1500 in a heart beat. I recovered a lawn tractor, that was under water for 3 days. I let it completely dry out, after changing fluids. I put a fan in front of it for several days. I pulled the plugs and cranked it, using starter motor (and new battery). There was an inine fuse that was burned and fuse holder was ruined that I replaced. The mower started and I ran it ten minutes and changed the oil again. That was 7 yrs ago and it is still running today.
Allow it to dry out before putting electricity to it (battery). Go through the motor fuses and replace the blown ones. If it has the white wire that always stays powered it will be blown and holder need replacing. After a week, I'd fire it up. Bet a dollar it runs!

Briscoe, this motor has been sitting covered but was drained of all fluids and it has been sitting for at least a year . So my concern is he didn’t fire it back up and it is possibly all corroded inside due to not getting it started and changing the oil a few times . It was not running when it went down so I know it never bent rods or anything with the water getting in it. I’m just cautious because of I give him 1500 and it’s not gonna run then I have 1500 plus 4000 for a new power head

So i bought this motor over the weekend for $1500. Lower unit is in great shape and that is what I needed it for. I have not gotten into the top end yet, but it looks to be in decent shape. All of the non electrical parts look fine. I will keep you updated as I progress into the top end.

Swapped the lower unit and the mid to my DF115. Mid unit looked brand new and the lower unit propeller and shaft look brand new. Power unit and cylinders look ok and motor turns over. only real problem i can find is the starter is really corroded. All of the anodes are in great shape. I will try to get the PU running over the next few weeks. ECU looks ok but who knows. Let me know if you need any parts.. everything looked ok.
